project 4 : inTension with Michael J. Horan

Project:

Design an object or installation for private or public space that utilizes interactivity's potential for playful engagement, performance and reciprocity. Your artifact can range from a small-scale stationary, mobile or wearable thing - networked or independent - to an entire environment that engages multiple people - local or remote. Keep in mind, though, the logistical challenges of actually realizing your project. This is a design and prototype assignment! Particular focus should be the multi-sensory qualities of your artifact.
Depending on what you choose to do, task and context will help identify opportunities for emphasizing specific sensory modalities.

Nov 15:

Present project proposal and research report. The proposal should contain the objective, the context, the users, the design criteria, the solution. The research report should contain information relevant to your proposal.

Nov 22:

Present initial sketches of your design solution (possibly several variations) and user scenarios demonstrating in a step-by-step manner how someone uses your proposed design.

Nov 29:

Present final design including drawings of what you are going to build, cardboard mock-ups, material specification, technical plan, interaction sequence

Dec 6:

individual parts of prototype in progress (working breadboard that uses the actual sensors/switches, physical elements, software/programming,...)

Dec 13:

Close-to-final prototype

Dec 18-19: ITP Winter Show

Final Deliverable:
A well-finished "proof-of-concept" working prototype that embodies as much as possible the form and function of the concept. The prototype needs to be robust enough for presentation in the ITP end-of semester show.
